Furniture glides protect flooring from objects, such as chairs, desks, and room dividers, that are pushed against the surface as opposed to being rolled. Since the resistance of furniture being pushed across carpet or tile is not ergonomically beneficial to people nor favorable to the maintenance of the flooring, furniture glides can be very useful. Differing in materials of construction, furniture glides can be made of nylon, plastic, steel or felt.
Swivel glides, stationary glides, leveling glides, and pronged glides are some of the many furniture glides available on the market. Furniture glides may also be constructed to be nailed or screwed into wood or to fit on square or round tubular legs. Furniture glides and pads are also offered in various shapes, such as rectangular, round, square, and triangular. If a new furniture glide is not necessary, there are also snap-on caps available to fit over existing floor glides.
